Case Studies: Lichfield Cathedral

The renovation of the windows of Lichfield Cathedral required a scaffolding solution on a monumental scale. The work involved the removal of the cathedral’s sixteenth century Herkenrode Glass windows and the restoration of masonry supporting them. To enable the five-year project to go ahead, Attridge constructed a huge birdcage within the apse at the East End of the aisle using HAKI Universal System Scaffold and HAKI stair towers.

The system’s design allowed for access routes through the structure and enabled sections to be decked where required. The load bearing ledges also meant that no special board bearers were required for the erection of the birdcage. Attridge also installed HAKI stair towers to provide a safe solution to meeting working at height regulations.
